Novel methods and agents for modulating the production of rhamnolipids (RLs) by a microorganism, through the modulation of the expression and/or activity of R-specific enoyl-CoA hydratases/isomerases (ECH/I), are described. Assays to identify agents that may be useful for modulating the production of RLs by a microorganism are also described.
