  The reaction of neutral radical ligand 4-(2 '-cyanofuryl-5 ')-1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolyI with a stoichiometric amount of bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)-manganese(II), -cobalt(II) or nickel(II) generates alternating metal-ligand chains in the solid state. The coordination mode of this ligand to the metal dication is unprecedented, providing the first evidence that the nitrogen atoms of a 1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolyl are capable of coordination to a metal dication in the absence of chelation.
