    Provided is a photoelectric conversion element including: a first electrode that includes a photosensitive layer containing a light absorbing agent on a conductive support; and a second electrode that is opposite to the first electrode. The light absorbing agent includes a compound having a perovskite-type crystal structure that includes a cation of an element of Group 1 in the periodic table or a cationic organic group A, a cation of a metal atom M other than the element of Group 1 in the periodic table, and an anion of an anionic atom or atomic group X. A hole transport layer, which includes a hole transporting material, is provided between the first electrode and the second electrode. The hole transporting material includes a compound represented by any one of the following Formulae (1) to (4).

    Provided are a material for an organic electroluminescent element formed of a silicon-containing four-membered ring compound, and an organic electroluminescent element using the material. The material for an organic electroluminescent element is formed of a compound represented by the following formula (1) and is used for, for example,a light-emitting layer containing a phosphorescent light-emitting dopant in an organic electroluminescent element. In the formula, X represents nitrogen or phosphorus, L's each represent an (n+1)-valent aromatic hydrocarbon group or aromatic heterocyclic group, and at least one of the L's represents an aromatic heterocyclic group. A1 to A6 each represent an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group, an aromatic hydrocarbon group, an aromatic heterocyclic group, or an amino group, and n represents an integer of 0 to 3.

    Disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device (organic EL device) that is improved in luminous efficiency, sufficiently secures driving stability, and has a simple construction. The device is an organic electroluminescent device having organic layers including a light-emitting layer between an anode and a cathode laminated on a substrate, in which a carborane compound is incorporated into at least one layer of the organic layers, or is incorporated as a host material into a light-emitting layer containing a phosphorescent light-emitting dopant and the host material. The carborane compound has a structure in which a N-containing fused aromatic ring is bonded to a carborane ring. The N-containing fused aromatic ring is a quinoline ring or has a structure obtained by substituting 1 to 3 ring-forming carbon atoms in a quinoline ring with N atoms.

    Disclosed are an organic electroluminescent device (organic EL device) having improved luminous efficiency, sufficiently secured driving stability, and a simple construction, and a material for an organic EL device. The material for an organic EL device includes a carborane compound having a structure in which at least one carborane ring and at least one dibenzothiophene ring are present, and the at least one carborane ring is bonded to the at least one dibenzothiophene ring at position 1, 2, or 3. In addition, the organic EL device includes, between an anode and a cathode laminated on a substrate, at least one organic layer, in which the at least one organic layer includes the carborane compound.
