    Palladium compound compositions are provided in accordance with Formulae [((R) 3 E) a Pd(Q)(LB) b ] p [WCA] r , where ((R) 3 E) is a Group 15 electron donor ligand, Q is an anionic ligand, LB is a Lewis base, WCA is a weakly coordinating anion, a is 1, 2 or 3, b is 0, 1 or 2, the sum of a and b is 1, 2 or 3 and each of p and r is an integer such that the molecular charge is zero, or [(E(R) 3 )(E(R) 2 R*)Pd(LB)] p [WCA] r where E(R) 2 R* represents a Group 15 neutral electron donor ligand and where R* is an anionic hydrocarbyl containing moiety, bonded to the Pd and having a β hydrogen with respect to the Pd center. Such compound composition exhibits latent polymerization activity in the presence of polycyclic olefins.

    Cobalt(II)-, nickel(II)-bearing aqueous solutions may be treated with an extractant comprising an organic-soluble phosphinic acid, or a salt thereof, to separate the cobalt(II) from the aqueous solution. Typical extraction techniques compatible with the instant process include liquid- liquid extraction employing either mixer settlers or columns, packed beds of supported extractants as in ion exchange, liquid membrane extraction and selective supported membrane extraction.

    Allylphosphines and vinylphosphines are prepared by reaction of a phosphine with an allylhalide or a vinylhalide, respectively. Preferably the phosphine is a secondary phosphine, so that there is formed an allyldialkylphosphine or a dialkylvinylphosphine. The allyldialkylphosphine can be reacted further with dialkylphosphine under free radical conditions to yield a 1,3-bis-(dialkylphosphino)propane The dialkylvinylphosphine can be reacted further with dialkylphosphine under free radical conditions to yield a 1,2-bis-(dialkylphosphino)ethane. These compounds are useful as bidentate ligands.

    Process for the coupling of a) nucleophiles selected from the group alcohols, thioles, amines, metallised hydrocarbons, CH-acidic compounds and metal cyanides, or of b) carbon monoxide mixed with water, alcohols, ammonia, primary or secondary amines, to organic compounds selected from the group of leaving-group-containing aromatics, hetero-aromatics with a C-bonded leaving group, aromatic or hetero-aromatic methyl compounds with a leaving group bonded to the methyl group, ethylenically unsaturated organic compounds with a C-bonded leaving group, or organic allyl compounds with a leaving group in allyl position, or c) vinyl compounds with leaving-group-containing aromatics, whilst cleaving the leaving group in the presence of Pd complexes with monophospholine ligands as the catalyst, whereby variants b) and c) are carried out in the presence of an inorganic base or organic nitrogen base, the process being characterised in that the Pd complex contains secondary monophosphines with aliphatic, branched or cyclic substituents as ligands.
