Syntheses of Pyrrolo- and Furo-1,4-dihydropyridine Derivatives

Methyl 4-aryl-1,4,5,7-tetrahydro-2,7,7-trimethyl-5-oxo-6H-pyrrolo-[4,3-b]pyridine-3-carboxylates and methyl 1,4,5,7-tetrahydro-3-methyl-7-oxo-4-phenylfuro[3,4-b]pyridine-3-carboxylate were synthesized. Attempting synthesis of methyl 4-aryl-1,3,5,7a-tetrahydro-1,1,6-trimethyl-3-oxofuro[3,4-c]-pyridine-7-carboxylates failed.
Organocatalytic asymmetric Michael/acyl transfer reaction between α-nitroketones and 4-arylidenepyrrolidine-2,3-diones

An organocatalytic asymmetric Michael/acyltransferreaction between α-nitroketones and 4-arylidenepyrrolidine-2,3-diones is reported. A bifunctional thiourea catalyst was found to be effective for this reaction. With 10 mol % of the catalyst, good results were attained for a variety of 1,5-dihydro-2H-pyrrol-2-ones under mild reaction conditions.
Methyl 4-aryl-1,4,5,7-tetrahydro-2,7,7-trimethyl-5-oxo-6H-pyrrolo-[4,3-b]pyridine-3-carboxylates and methyl 1,4,5,7-tetrahydro-3-methyl-7-oxo-4-phenylfuro[3,4-b]pyridine-3-carboxylate were synthesized. Attempting synthesis of methyl 4-aryl-1,3,5,7a-tetrahydro-1,1,6-trimethyl-3-oxofuro[3,4-c]-pyridine-7-carboxylates failed.
