A novel method for the synthesis of antiplatelet 2-aminochromones making use of the reaction of 2'-hydroxyacetophenone-BF2 Complexes with phosgeniminium chlorides has been developed. Aqueous hydrolysis of the intermediate beta-chlorovinylogous amide-BF2 complex affords the 2-aminochromone in good yield, without the need for chromatographic purification.
Selective Fries Rearrangement Catalyzed by Zinc Powder

Zinc powder in the presence of N,N-dimethylformamide efficiently catalyzes the selective Fries rearrangement of acetylated phenols under microwave heating or with conventional heating using an oil bath. In some cases different products were obtained using microwave heating and conventional heating. Selective migration of the acyl group has been noted with good yields.

Three isomeric and one process related substances of acetovanillone 1-(4-hydroxy-3- methoxyphenyl)ethanone (I) were isolated and characterized while developing a laboratory process and pilot scale synthesis of acetovanillone. These impurities namely, 1-(3-hydroxy-4- methoxyphenyl)ethanone (Imp 1) (isoacetovanillone impurity), 1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)- propan-1-one) (Imp 2) (propiovanillone impurity)
