In order to evaluate the anti‐hyperlipidemic effect of synthetic chalcones and some analogues, nineteen compounds with different substituents in both rings were synthesized and hypolipidemic activities were measured in vivo using Triton WR1339 acute and hypercaloric chronic assays. 4′,4‐dichlorochalcone, 3′,4′,4‐trichlorochalcone, and 4′‐chlorochalcone gave an excellent decrease in serum total cholesterol

The synthesis of 22 substituted tricarbonyl compounds is reported. They were obtained either by oxidation of β-dicarbonyl compounds with SeO2 or nitrous oxides or by oxidation of the α-bromo-β-dicarbonyl compounds with DMSO. The procedures using SeO2 or DMSO are more rapid and give in general better yields than other methods described in the literature.

Abstract The reaction of bromo-substituted chalcones with various diamino-compounds leads to the fused heterocyclic products, aziridinylpiperazines, exhibiting photoreactivity in the crystalline state.
