    The present invention provides a fiber comprising a biodegradable polymer. The present invention further provides a fiber comprising a biodegradable polymer composition containing a 3-hyroxybutyric acid moiety in the molecule thereof, which retains the properties of poly(3-hyroxybutyric acid) and has a high strength and a high melting point so as to be tolerant in practical use and also provides a process for preparing the fiber by melt spinning. Specifically, the fiber comprises a biodegradable polymer composition comprising a copolymerized polyester containing a stereospecific poly(3-hydoxybutyric acid) unit, a random copolymerized polyester containing poly(3-hydoxybutyric acid) or 3-hydoxybutyric acid units, and optionally a polyester containing specific units, and a process for preparing the fiber by melt spinning.

    Embodiments described herein relate generally to plant extract compositions and methods to isolate cutin-derived monomers, oligomers, and mixtures thereof for application in agricultural coating formulations, and in particular, to methods of preparing plant extract compositions that include functionalized and non-functionalized fatty acids and fatty esters (as well as their oligomers and mixtures thereof), which are substantially free from accompanying plant-derived compounds (e.g., proteins, polysaccharides, phenols, lignans, aromatic acids, terpenoids, flavonoids, carotenoids, alkaloids, alcohols, alkanes, and aldehydes) and can be used in agricultural coating formulations.

    The main monomer of tomato cuticle, 10,16-dihydroxyhexadecanoic acid (or 10,16-dihydroxypalmitic acid; 10,16-DHPA), was isolated and used to efficiently synthesize two different monomers (16-hydroxy-10-oxo-hexadecanoic and 7-oxohexa-decanedioic acids) in addition to a dimer and linear and branched trimers. These compounds were fully characterized using NMR and MS techniques and could be used as starting materials for the synthesis of a wide range of chemicals and bio-polyesters, particularly the latter due to their physical properties, non-toxicity, and relative abundance among raw materials.
