The conditions of the photochemical synthesis of fluoroalkanols H(C2F4)nC(OH)R1R2 (n = 1, 2) by the reaction of tetrafluoroethylene with alcohols in the presence of photoinitiators and sensitisers are described. A composition for an absorption refrigerator, which contains at least one fluorinated alcohol refrigerant containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms, is liquid at ordinary temperature, and becomes volatile upon heating under ordinary or reduced pressure, and at least one absorbent having a higher boiling point than said refrigerant at ordinary pressure and being capable of absorbing said refrigerant; and an absorption-refrigerating system using said composition.
