  A highly practicable synthesis of both enantiomers of 3-hydroxypipecolic acid derivatives 1, 2, 3, 4 is described. Screening of these molecules for glycosidase inhibition has been examined.   Novel 3-hydroxypipecolic acid derivatives were synthesized from glycine by using the method we developed previously. Among the 3-hydroxypipecolic acid derivatives obtained, a 2,3-trans-3-O-TBDPS-4,5-didehydro derivative showed the most promising result as an asymmetric catalyst in the Mannich reaction of ethyl 4-(methoxyphenylimino)acetate and n-hexylaldehyde.
