  Antihypercholesterolemic thioimidazoles of the formula ##STR1## or a pharmaceutical acceptable salt thereof, wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently are H, F, Cl, CF.sub.3, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; A is alkylene of 7-20 carbon atoms or an alkenyl residue thereof with no more than 2 double bonds; R.sup.3 is H, CH.sub.3 or C.sub.2 H.sub.5 ; and n is 0, 1 or 2, are provided, such as 8-(4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazol-2-ylthio)octanoic acid ethyl ester.
