The (−)-allosamizoline aminocyclopentitol was prepared by use of a route featuring pyridinium salt photochemical synthesis of the aminocyclopentene core, enzymatic desymmetrization, Wittig rearrangement to introduce the hydroxymethyl side chain, and regiocontrolled epoxide ring opening.
