    Development of the First Potential Covalent Inhibitors of Anandamide Cellular Uptake

    On the basis of the chemical structures of two previously developed metabolically stable and relatively potent inhibitors of anandamide uptake, OMDM-1,2, two series of potential covalent inhibitors of anandamide cellular reuptake, which might be used for the molecular characterization of the protein(s) involved in the membrane transport of endocannabinoids, have been designed and synthesized. Most of the compounds inhibited uptake to a varied extent and in a generally enantio-sensitive manner when co-incubated with [C-14]anandamide, but only three of them, the photoactivatable 1a (OMDM-37), 1b (OMDM-39), and 8 (Lo395), also produced a significant inhibition of uptake following the preincubation only of the cells, and this effect was significantly enhanced following UV exposure only in the case of 8. None of the new compounds inhibited [C-14]anandamide hydrolysis with IC50 < 50 mu M, except for 1b.

    Described herein are formulations and methods of reducing spoilage in harvested produce by reducing the rate of water or mass loss, thereby resulting in high quality produce with lower rates of spoilage. The present disclosure provides coatings and methods of coating produce to prevent moisture loss from produce during storage and shipment of the produce. This in turn allows the produce to be shipped and stored at lower relative humidity (e.g., lower than industry standards for shipment and storage, or lower than about 90% relative humidity), which can help delay the growth of biotic stressors such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, and/or pests.

    Fatty acid ester derivatives and a process for their production from unsaturated fatty acids are disclosed. The process comprises: a) reacting an unsaturated fatty acid or an ester thereof having one or more sites of unsaturation, with an epoxidation reagent to form a fatty acid epoxide wherein at least one of the sites of unsaturation of the fatty acid or fatty acid ester is converted to an oxirane ring; and b) reacting the fatty acid epoxide produced in a) with a carboxylic acid to form a hydroxy fatty acid ester derivative wherein the oxirane ring is opened and converted to a hydroxy ester comprising a hydroxyl group at one carbon of the opened oxirane ring and an ester of the carboxylic acid at the other carbon of the opened oxirane ring.
