hydrogen bonds. The strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds enabled DDT to crystallize easily. The color CCD imaging technique showed efficient 1D opticalwaveguiding with a large optical loss coefficient of 0.15 dB/μm. DDT has potential application in optical sensors, photonic devices, and optoelectronic communication, because of its highly ordered structure and light-emitting ability.

Disclosed herein is a novel benzoquinone derivative represented by the following general formula (I):
wherein R, means an alkyl or cycloalkyl group, R2 denotes an alkyl or cycloalkyl group, a phenyl group which may optionally contain one or more halogen atoms and/or alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, alkylne, phenoxy, phenyl and/or biphenylyl groups, or a benzyl or naphthyl group which may optionally contain one or more methyl groups. This compound is useful as an oxidative color-developing agent for recording materials. The compound can be prepared by oxidation of the corresponding hydroquinone.
Novel polyimides substituted by a substituent having an alkyl or fluoroalkyl group and having reduced water absorption; a process for producing these novel polyimides; and novel acid dianhydrides to be used in the production thereof.
A polyimide containing a structure represented by the following general formula (I):
