A method for asymmetric alkyl-alkylSuzuki reactions of unactivatedsecondaryalkyl electrophiles, specifically, cross-couplings of racemic acylated halohydrins with alkylborane reagents, has been developed. A range of protected bromohydrins, as well as a protected chlorohydrin and a homologated bromohydrin, are coupled in good ee by a catalyst derived from commercially available components.

Carbon-carbon bond formation with new Mitsunobu reagents
derivatives and a stabilized phosphorane in the Mitsunobu type CC bondformation was compared utilizing the reactions of three nucleophiles of different pKa′S and several alcohols of different structure types. The study established the characteristics of each reagent. The synthesis of two insect pheromone analogs was accomplished effectively using these homologation reactions.

An indirect organocatalytic method for the beta-methylation of alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes that involves the addition of bis(arylsulfonyl)methane catalyzed by prolinol derivatives and further elimination of the chameleonic sulfonyl groups is presented.
