The synthesis and crystal structures of ‘necklace’ 1-D coordination polymers with Cu2I2 nodes and ‘extended-reach’ heterocyclic bridging ligands

Reaction of three 'extended-reach' bridging ligands with copper (I) iodide consistently produced 1-D coordination polymers with a necklace-type connectivity. These all consist of large macrocyclic rings sharing Cu2I2 nodes. In one case a potentially tripodal ligand acts in a hypodentate mode, with a pendent non-coordinated arm inserted into the cavity of an adjacent macrocycle. (C) 2014 Elsevier B. V. New three- and four-armed flexible bridging ligands for use in metallosupramolecular chemistry: syntheses and X-ray structures

Preparations are described of twelve new tritopic and tetratopic ligands by coupling of two phenolic precursors with a range of heterocyclic units. X-ray crystal structures of four representative examples revealed the conformations in the solid state with the nitrogen donor atoms separated by distances ranging from 10.9 to 18.2 angstrom.
