α-position of acetophenone derivatives to donor–acceptor cyclopropanes, were synthesized in two steps via first ring opening of donor–acceptor cyclopropanes with acyclic 1,3-diketones followed by DBU catalyzed retro-Claisen-type C–C bond cleavage reactions.
