We report here on a one-pot stereoselective synthesis of strained sulfonyl benzonorcaradienes, which proceeds through base-mediated tandem annulation of o-bis-sulfonylmethyl arenes with diversified chalcones (α,β-unsaturated carbonyls) via intermolecular desulfonylative cyclopropanation, followed by intramolecular condensation.
