  (EN) The present invention provides compounds of formulae (Ia) and (Ib) and pharmaceutically or veterinarily salts thereof; wherein A, R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen, halogen or an organic group; Q and W are appropriate substituents and X is either oxygen or sulphur or NR, wherein R is either hydrogen or an organic group. A process for their preparation is also described. The compounds of formulae (Ia) and (Ib) and the pharmaceutically and veterinarily acceptable salts thereof are elastase inhibitors.(FR) Cette invention porte sur des composés des formules (Ia) et (Ib) ainsi que sur leurs sels à usage pharmaceutique ou vétérinaire. Dans ces formules, A, R1, R2 et R3 représentent un hydrogène, un halogène ou un groupe organique, Q et W représentent des substituants appropriés et X représente, soit un oxygène, soit un soufre, soit encore NR, R représentant, soit un hydrogène, soit un groupe organique. L'invention traite également d'un procédé de préparation de ces composés.   A practical and efficient route leading to the synthesis of 4-(tert-butylcarbonyl)-7α-methoxy-3-methyl-Δ3-cephem 1,1-dioxide (2), a key-intermediate in the preparation of potent inhibitors of mammalian serine proteinases, is reported. The new synthetic pathway has allowed easy access to an array of 7-substituted cephem derivatives.
