A first novel synthetic utility of catalytic sodiumnitrite in combination with aqueous HBr, for bromo decarboxylation of α,β-unsaturated carboxylicacid is described. α,β-Unsaturated carboxylicacid compounds successfully converted into corresponding bromo compounds. The advantages of this protocol are shorter reaction time and moderate to good yields.

A simple and mild method for decarboxylative bromination of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids has been developed using Dess-Martin Periodinane (DMP) in combination with tetraethylammonium bromide (TEAB) at room temperature. High yields of the corresponding bromoalkenes were obtained.

Cu2O was found to be an efficient and economical metal catalyst in the Ullmann cross-coupling reaction of vinyl bromides with imidazole or benzimidazole. The system Cu2O/ethyl 2-oxocyclohexanecarboxylate showed high catalytic activity in MeCN at 80–90 °C. The reaction gave the corresponding coupling products in good to excellent yields.
