    Dioxaborines as organic n-semiconductors, a process for the production of semiconductors utilizing dioxaborines, and a semiconductor component, a field effect transistor, and a diode having a dioxaborine are provided. Dioxaborines have a conjugated π-system that carries two terminal six-membered dioxaborine heterocycles that are electronically linked to one another via the central π-system. The compounds have good electron mobility and very good reversibility of redox behavior and are therefore suitable as organic semiconductors in electronic semiconductor components. Processes for manufacturing the electronic semiconductor components utilize the dioxabroines.

    A photographic recording material is disclosed. The material is comprised of a transparent support base and a number of layers positioned on that base. A dye ligand or a dye ligand-forming substance is positioned on the base and is associated with a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion. In addition, the material contains a mordant layer, an alkaline processing composition, and a means for releasing the composition throughout the photographic recording material in an integrated manner or as a different system. The mordant layer contains a coordination polymer composed of a ligand represented by a general formula (I) defined within the application and a metal ion. The invention makes it possible to immobilize a metal ion using inexpensive, easily available metal-chelatable ligands.

    Dinuclear metal complexes of phenylene-linked bis-β-di-ketone ligands were prepared and the magnetic interactions between the complex units along the π-conjugated linkers were investigated. Both ferro- and antiferromagnetic interactions were observed for the m- and p-phenylene-linked dimers, respectively.

    1,3-Dicarbonyl compounds are provided having the formula: wherein: R1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydrocarbon groups having from one to about eighteen carbon atoms and such groups substituted with one or more groups selected from the group consisting of halogen, hydroxy, alkoxy OR1, ester COORl, alkyl and alkoxycarbonyl alkyl having from one to about eighteen carbon atoms, and R2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbon having from one to about eighteen carbon atoms and such groups substituted with one or more groups selected from the group consisting of halogen, hydroxy, alkoxy OR1, ester COOR1, alkyl and alkoxycarbonyl alkyl having from one to about eighteen carbon atoms; one R1 and R2 may be linked together as an alkylene group to form a cyclic or ring structure; n is number from 1 to 3; and Z is a polyvalent linking radical selected from the group consisting of a direct linkage between the groups; polyvalent hydrocarbon R3; wherein: R3 is a polyvalent hydrocarbon group having from one to about eighteen carbon atoms; R4 and Rs are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and hydrocarbon groups having from one to about eighteen carbon atoms; and R4 and R5 may be linked together as an alkylene to form a cyclic or ring structure; X is -O- od -S-; m is 0 or 1; and R6 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydrocarbon having from one to about eighteen carbon atoms, and -R3-; as well as metal and organotin enolate salts thereof. The compounds are effective in enhancing the resistance to deterioration by heat and light of polyvinyl halide resins.

    We have synthesized and fully characterized an acyclic bifunctional vicinal tricarbonyl compound, its hydrate, and its ethanol-adduct, which could be converted to one another by utilizing the reversible addition-elimination of water or ethanol. X-ray single crystal study revealed that the bistriketone expanded and contracted by 10-30% in length during the interconversion. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
