Selective catalytic synthesis of Z-olefins has been challenging. Here we describe a method to produce 1,2-disubstituted olefins in high Z selectivity via reductive cross-coupling of alkylhalides with terminal arylalkynes. The method employs inexpensive and nontoxic catalyst (iron(II) bromide) and reductant (zinc). The substrate scope encompasses primary, secondary, and tertiaryalkylhalides, and

Methods for the synthesis and use of functionalized, substituted naphthalenes are described. The functionalized, substituted naphthalenes display useful properties including liquid crystals and fluorescence properties, such as solvatochromatic fluorescence, with high quantum yields, Stoke's shift, and show emission maxima that are significantly red-shifted.

Here, we describe an application of hydroazidation in the instant activation of alkynes for achieving the oxyphosphorylation of unactivated alkynes with diarylphosphinoyl radicals under mild reaction conditions. This reaction provides a method for accessing β-ketophosphine oxides and phosphorus-containing pyrroles.
phosphine ligands, a Pd-catalyzed asymmetric double hydroxycarbonylation of terminal alkynes to chiralsuccinicacids was achieved in a one-pot manner. The alkyne carbonylation was dictated by the achiral monophosphine to afford branched acrylic acids, while the resulting intermediates further underwent Pd/chiral bisphosphine-catalyzed enantioselective hydroxycarbonylation.

an analogous protocol for alkyne substrates is yet to be developed. Herein, a base and cobalt relay catalytic process for the selective synthesis of (Z)-2-alkenes and conjugated E alkenes by migratory hydrogenation of terminalalkynes is disclosed. Mechanistic studies support a relay catalytic process involving a sequential base-catalyzed isomerization of terminalalkynes and cobalt-catalyzed hydrogenation
