solved: Using heterologous expression, the activities of two enzymes exclusively belonging to the kanamycin biosynthetic pathway have been identified in vitro. A distinctive reaction mechanism (see scheme) to produce kanamycin is proposed and the previously unknown catalytic deamination activity of KanJdioxygenase is uncovered.
