The application of iodosobenzene (1) and iodoxybenzene (2) for the oxidation reaction of phosphorus, phosphorothiono and phosphoroseleno compounds into the corresponding ≡P(O) analogs is demonstrated. Retention of configuration at the phosphorus atom and full stereoselectivity of these reactions in model diastereoisomeric cis- and trans-2-phenylamino-2-thiono-4-methyl-1.3.2-dioxaphosphorinans (30) as well cis- and trans-2-phenylamino-2-seleno-4-methyl-1.3.2-dioxaphosphorinans (31) systems, are demonstrated.

Vinylic thiophosphorus acid esters of either cis- or trans-configuration can be synthesized in a stereospecific reaction of a cis- and a trans-vinylic metal compound with diorgano phosphoryl disulfide and a diorgano phosphoryl sulfenyl halide, respectively, and the product can be isomerized to the thermodynamically more stable mixture of isomers by free radical and ionic catalysts. The new cis- and/or trans-vinylic thiophosphorus esters are mainly useful in the field of plant and animal pesticides.

Peracid oxidation of organophosphorothioic acids yields novel organophosphoro(thioperoxoic) acids (PSOH-isomers) and tentatively their POSH-isomers evident by 31p NMR spectroscopy. These acids or their further oxidation products are phosphorylating and sulfurylating agents.
