Intermolecular cycloaddition of tosylhydrazones with nitriles was investigated. t-BuOK was shown to be an excellent base for increasing the effectiveness of the reaction in this protocol, and homocoupling of the tosylhydrazones was significantly inhibited by using xylene as a solvent.
