    A novel rhodamine based fluorescent sensor, L, was developed and investigated as a colorimetric and fluorescent sensor for Fe3+ in dimethyl sulfoxide. The compound L showed a good selectivity and sensitivity toward Fe3+ in the presence of large excess of other competitive ions.     A new chemodosimeter for the highly selective sensing and imaging of biothiols was designed and realized in phosphate‐buffered saline solution at pH 7.4 through a fluorescence “off–on” response. A unique mechanism featuring a two‐step cascade (biothiols→H2O) sequence for this remarkable recognition is disclosed for the first time.

    A novel iminocoumarin precursor L was designed and well characterized. Sensor L showed high selectivity toward Pd2+ in aqueous solution (CH3CN:H2O, v/v, 1:1) with a detection limit is 2.1 × 10−7M. Iminocoumarin was formed when added Pd2+ to the solution of L by removing the propargylic group.

    A boronate-based fluorescent probe 1 for the selective monitoring of intracellular peroxynitrite has been developed. The probe takes advantage of the fast reaction of an arylboronate group with peroxynitrite, yielding a corresponding phenol that undergoes spontaneous subsequent reactions to produce a strongly fluorescent product associated with a large turn-on signal.

    A bifunctional probe 1 with iminocoumarin scaffold demonstrated different responses for Cu2+ and Hg2+. In fluorescence mode of probe 1, the intensity at 528 nm was quenched severely upon the addition of Cu2+ or Hg2+. Meanwhile, a new fluorescence band at 574 nm appeared in the case of Hg2+. In its UV-Vis absorption mode, significant hypochromic shift for Cu2+ and bathochromic shift for Hg2+ occurred, which are in agreement with the observation of distinct color changes. In addition, probe 1 can be used for the construction of a molecular logic gate with NOR and INHIBIT logic functions.
