MicrobialBaeyer-Villigeroxidations of representative mesomeric ketones with recombinant Escherichia coli cells expressingtwomonooxygenases from Brevibacterium were investigated. The two enzymes displayed enantiodivergent biotransformations on an array of structurally diverse substrates, allowing access to some key lactone intermediates in natural compound synthesis.
