    Therapeutic amine-arylsulfonamide conjugate compounds, of the general formula: wherein R′ is [D-W-], hydroxyl, or alkoxyl; R″ is independently [D-W′-], hydrogen, alkoxy, alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or aryl, or R″ and R″ together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a 4-, 5-, 6-, 7- or 8-membered ring optionally containing one or two further heteroatoms independently selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur; D is independently a therapeutic amine radical comprising at least one nitrogen atom and optionally at least one oxygen atom coupled to W or W′ by a nitrogen or oxygen atom; W and W′ are a chemical bond or linker; wherein either R′ is [D-W-] or at least one R″ is [D-W′-], and pharmaceutically acceptable esters, amides, salts or solvates thereof, pharmaceutical compositions containing same, methods for their preparation, and their use in treating psychiatric, neurologic and metabolic disorders are disclosed.

    A stent comprising a matrix and a fiber reinforcement about which the matrix is chemically or mechanically attached. The matrix is provided with heavier loads of pharmaceutically active ingredients or genetic materials as a result of the increased strength and mechanical characteristics provided to the stent by the fiber reinforcement. The fiber reinforcement can be comprised of a plurality of mono-filament fibers spaced and oriented in a flat weave pattern to which the matrix is chemically or mechanically attached. Degradation rates of the materials that comprise the matrix and the fiber reinforcement can be varied to vary the time period in which the stent maintains its mechanical characteristics or releases the pharmaceutically active ingredients or genetic materials therefrom. Multiple stage release profiles can be provided by providing multiple layers of matrices and fiber reinforcements, whereby different pharmaceutically active ingredients or genetic materials or different concentrations thereof, can be released according to the degradation profiles of the matrix and fiber reinforcment.

    A bioabsorbable drain tube for the evacuation of fluids and gases from a body cavity or wound to promote healing, such as after chest surgery. The bioabsorbable drain tube includes a first elongated section molded from a bioabsorbable polymer, the first elongated section having a first end, a second end and a plurality of drain openings; and a second elongated section, the second elongated section having a first end and a second end, the first end of the second elongated section in fluid communication with the second end of the first elongated section. A method of draining fluid from a surgical site or wound of a patient is also provided.
