Abstract The benzene extract from the roots of Thapsia villosa var. minor afforded six new sesquiterpene esters based on the thapsane skeleton for which the structure (1 R ,6 R ,8 R ,9 R )-1,2,2,6,8,9-hexamethylbicyclo[4.3.0]nonane is proposed.Five of these thapsane esters were hemiacetal derivatives esterified at C-1,C-3 or C-8 and the sixth is a dimeric acetal esterified at C-8.
