The present invention is directed to substituted 1,4-thiazepine and analogs thereof, represented by the general Formula (I): wherein the dashed lines, A?1, A2, A3, X1 and R1¿ are defined herein. The present invention also relates to the discovery that compounds having Formula I are activators of capases and inducers of apoptosis.
