    A multilayer film for packaging which is superior in, such as extensible elasticity, ability for adhering onto various surfaces, transparency, clear cutting performance, heat-sealability, resistance to fogging, resistance to break-through and ability for restoring from finger pressing and which comprises outer layers made of the outer layer resin composition (I) or (II) given below and an inner layer made of an inner layer resin composition composed of a higher melting component (III) and a softening component (IV) interposed between the outer layers, wherein the resin composition (I) comprises 59.5-99.5% by weight of (A) an ethylene/&agr;-olefin copolymer component, which is composed of at least one copolymer of ethylene and an &agr;-olefin having 3-20 carbon atoms and which has a melt flow rate (MFR) of 0.1-10 g/10 min. and a density of 0.850 g/cm 3 -0.910 g/cm 3 ; 0-40% by weight of (B) a high-pressure process low density polyethylene having a density of 0.915-0.930 g/cm 3 , and 0.5-10% by weight of (C) an anti-fogging agent, and wherein the resin composition (II) comprises 99.5-90% by weight of (D) an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, which is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate and has a vinyl acetate content of 10-30% by weight and an MFR of 0.5-30 g/10 min., and 0.5-10% by weight of (C) anti-fogging agent.

    The subject invention relates to a technique for synthesizing rubbery non-tapered, random, copolymers of 1,3-butadiene and isoprene. These rubbery copolymers exhibit an excellent combination of properties for utilization in tire sidewall rubber compounds for truck tires. By utilizing these isoprene-butadiene rubbers in tire sidewalls, tires having improved cut growth resistance can be built without sacrificing rolling resistance. Such rubbers can also be employed in tire tread compounds to improve tread wear characteristics and decrease rolling resistance without sacrificing traction characteristics. This invention more specifically discloses a process for the synthesis of isoprene-butadiene rubbers which comprises copolymerizing isoprene monomer and 1,3-butadiene monomer in an organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst system which is made by the sequential steps of (1) mixing (a) an organoaluminum hydride, (b) a member selected from the group consisting of aliphatic alcohols, cycloaliphatic alcohols, aliphatic thiols, cycloaliphatic thiols, trialkyl silanols, and triaryl silanols, and (c) optionally, 1,3-butadiene in an organic solvent to produce a modified organoaluminum catalyst component; (2) adding an organometallic compound which contains a metal from Group III-B of the Periodic System to the modified organoaluminum catalyst component to produce a Group III-B metal containing catalyst component; and (3) adding a compound which contains at least one labile halogen atom to the Group III-B metal containing catalyst component.

    The present invention relates to nanocomposite materials based on a copolymer of at least two monomers selected from the group consisting of butadiene, isoprene and styrene and a clay mineral dispersed therein, and a process for preparing them. By using an organolithium as the initiator, an organic hydrocarbon solvent as the solvent and a polar additive as the microstructure modifier by means of a classical anionic solution polymerization process, at least two monomers selected from the group consisting of butadiene, isoprene and styrene are in-situ intercalation polymerized in the presence of an organoclay, thereby obtaining a delaminated nanocomposite material which is excellent in mechanical properties, heat resistance, barrier property, chemical resistance and is well balanced in its comprehensive properties.

    A thermoplastic elastomer composition comprises the following two components: (a) a thermoplastic polyurethane having soft segments from a poly (3-methyl-1,5-pentane adipate) diol having a molecular weight of at least 2,000 and having a JIS A hardness at 25.degree. C. of not more than 80, and (b) a block copolymer comprising at least 2 polymer blocks A principally comprising an aromatic vinyl compound and at least 1 block B comprising an olefinic elastomer, said aromatic vinyl compound being contained in an amount of 5 to 50% by weight based on the weight of the block copolymer and the olefinic elastomer block having a glass transition point of not higher than -20.degree. C. and a heat of fusion of crystal of not more than 8 cal/g; the ratio by weight between the component (a) and the component (b) being (a)/(b)=95/5 to 5/95.

    The invention provides dispersants and dispersant viscosity index improvers which include polymers of conjugated dienes which have been hydrogenated and functionalized. The dispersant substances include compositions including a copolymer of two different conjugated dienes, a copolymer of a p-alkylstyrene and a conjugated diene, or a homopolymer of a conjugated diene. The polymers are selectively hydrogenated to produce polymers which have highly controlled amounts of unsaturation, permitting highly selective functionalization. Also provided are lubricant fluids, such as mineral and synthetic oils, which have been modified in their dispersancy and/or viscometric properties by means of the dispersant substances of the invention. Also provided are methods of modifying the dispersancy and/or viscometric properties of lubricating fluids such as mineral and synthetic lubricating oils. The dispersant substances may also include a carrier fluid to provide dispersant concentrates.
