Dihalodiphenylacetylenes are conveniently synthesized by a doubleelimination reaction of β-substituted sulfones which are readily obtained from halogen-substituted benzyl sulfone and benzaldehyde derivatives. Halogens can be incorporated at any desired positions in the diphenylacetylene skeleton simply by choosing the substitution position of the halogen on the aromatic rings of the starting compounds

Amphiphilic polyphenylenedendrimers (PPDs) with distinct lipophilic and positively or negatively charged surface groups were adsorbed onto liposomes and their impact on protein adsorption in blood plasma was studied. The PPD corona reduced binding of specific opsonins and increased the adsorption of proteins controllingcellularuptake based on their surface patches.

On-surface synthesis of heterochiral heptahelicene oligomers via Ullman coupling has been reported. Annealing helicene monomers equipped with spacer linkers and Br ligands on an Au(111) surface in UHV conditions resulted in helicene oligomers with a 100 % monomer coupling yield. The oligomers were characterized by AFM/STM and theoretical calculations.
