A rhodium-catalyzed [6 + 2] cycloaddition of internal alkynes with cycloheptatriene is described. A series of substituted alkynes were cycloadded to cycloheptatriene through a [6 + 2] addition to give a variety of substituted bicyclic compounds in excellent yields.
