Variously substituted aminomethylene malondialdehydes (2‐(3,3‐dimethylindolin‐2‐ylidene)malondialdehydes) were reacted with some 6‐aminouracils, to give 6‐(3,3‐dimethyl‐3H‐indol‐2‐yl)pyrido[2,3‐d]pyrimidine‐2,4‐(1H,3H)‐diones in good yields.

A synthesis of 5-(3,3-dimethyl-3H-indol-2-yl)-3-methyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridines by the reaction of variously substituted aminomethylene malondialdehydes [2-(3,3-dimethyl-3H-indol-2-ylidene)malondialdehydes] with 5amino-1-aryl-3-methylpyrazoles in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid in water is described.

A new series of pyrimido[1,2-b]indazoles bearing indolenine moieties was synthesized through a simple condensation reaction with up to 94% yield. The present method features the versatile formation of a pyrimidine ring with a broad range of substrates, great functional group compatibility and facile synthetic operation. The work offers opportunities in drug development as well as in materials science
