The iodine-promoted triflylation of 1,4-benzoquinones with cheap and easily available sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate is achieved under mild conditions. A series of aryl triflones were obtained in moderate to good yields. The method could also be extended to triflylation of 1,4-benzoquinone monoamines and perfluoroalkanesulfonylation with sodium perfluoroalkanesulfinates.

An antioxidant for animal fats, vegetable oils and mixtures thereof comprising ethoxyquin (1,2-dihydro-6-ethoxy-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline) in combination with phosphoric acid and, optionally t-butylhydroquinone. The compositions are particularly effective in stabilizing mixtures of animal fats and vegetable oils recovered from restaurants and rendering plants, a product commonly known as yellow grease and used as an animal feed supplement. The compositions containing t-butylhydroquinone are effective stabilizers for 100% vegetable oil.

A thermoplastic resin composition consisting essentially of (a) 50 to 90 % by weight of polybutylene terephthalate (component A), (b) 5 to 40 % by weight of modified polyolefin modified by an unsaturated monomer having a glycidyloxy group and an unsaturated monomer having a carboxyl group or an acid anhydride group (component B), (c) 5 to 40 % by weight of polycarbonate (component C); and molded articles prepared from the above thermoplastic resin composition.
The thermoplastic resin composition of the invention can give molded articles having excellent toughness, rigidity, strength and dimensional stability.
