The present invention relates to derivatives of dihydroxypyrrolidine useful in the treatment of cancer. The invention further relates to a process for making the compounds. The compounds are inhibitors of α mannosidase, and possibly, also inhibit nicotinamide phosphoribosyl transferase.

Two new anthraquinone glycosides Strepnoneside A (1) and Strepnoneside B (2), together with Chromomycin A3 (3), were isolated from cultures of the marineStreptomycessp. strain. The structures were elucidated on the basis of NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometry data. Compound 3 exhibited cytotoxic activities against HCT 116 cell lines (IC50 = 300 ± 11 pM).
