    The invention relates to a multilayer superoleophobic and/or superhydrophobic material comprising: on the one hand, a first constituent that is a conductive substrate or a substrate that has previously been rendered conductive (1): the surface of which is modified by chemical and/or physical treatment (2) and that incorporates a first adhesion-promoting conductive layer (3); or that incorporates a first adhesion-promoting conductive layer (3); and, on the other hand, at least one other constituent that is a superoleophobic and/or superhydrophobic polymer or copolymer layer (4, 5 or 6) composed of one or more monomers based on an aromatic or heteroaromatic ring substituted by one or more fluorocarbon and/or hydrocarbon chains. It is characterized in that the various constituents of said material comply with an increasing hydrophobicity gradient between the first layer deposited on the conductive substrate or substrate previously rendered conductive (1) and the last layer of said material.

    The present invention relates to a composition comprising i) at least one polythiophene selected from the group consisting of - a polythiophene comprising monomer units of structure (I) in which * indicates the bond to the neighboring monomer units, X,Z represent O or S, R1-R4 independently from each other represent a hydrogen atom or an organic residue R, with the proviso that at least one of residues R1 to R4 represents an organic residue R; - a polythiophene which is characterized by its compatibility in PGME (1-methoxypropan-2-ol), demonstrated by an RF-value of at least 0.8; iii) at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound; iv) at least one organic solvent; v) at least one radical initiator. The present invention also relates to a process for preparing a layer structure, to a layer structure obtainable by this process, to a layer structure, to an electronic component and to the use of composition according to the present invention.

  • Versatile Superhydrophobic Surfaces from a Bioinspired Approach

    We report the surface wettability and morphology of conductive polymer films obtained by electrodeposition of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (i.e., PEDOT) derivatives containing an alkyl chain (PEDOTHn with n = 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12) or a phenyl (PEDOTPh) group in the 2-position. Even if the general approach in the literature is the use of highly fluorinated tail to reach superhydrophobic materials, we point out that versatile surfaces (from hydrophilic to superhydrophobic) can be obtained, in one step, without any fluorinated chemistry. Indeed, superhydrophobic surfaces were formed, using Bu4NPF6 and acetonitrile as electrolyte, by electrodeposition of PEDOT derivatives substituted with n-C10H21 and n-C12H25 chains, while the polymer films substituted with n-C8H17 and n-C6H13 were hydrophobic and those substituted with n-C4H9 and phenyl were hydrophilic. In the PEDOTHn series, the polymer films were structured only from n-C8H17, which proves the influence of long alkyl chains on both the surface wettability and the surface morphology due to the increase in polymer insolubility. By changing acetonitrile by dichloromethane, as solvent of electropolymerization, it is possible to produce smooth surfaces and as a consequence to determine the chemical and physical parts of the contact angles as well as roughness factors or air fractions following the Wenzel and Cassie-Baxter theories. By changing the salt for the electrodeposition, it also was possible to reach superhydrophobic surfaces even with short alkyl chains as well as without alkyl chains but using perfluorinated salts. In this work the mechanism to reach structured surfaces is also discussed. This work contributes to the formation of bioinspired superhydrophobic surfaces.
