N-Acyliminium ions (NAIs) are highly reactive intermediates that are important for the construction of CC-bonds adjacent to nitrogen atoms. These species have been characterized for the first time in the gas phase by collision induced dissociation tandem mass spectrometry followed by infraredion spectroscopy (IRIS), which has led to new structural information that can be invoked to explain the diastereoselectivity

A sequencing methodology is disclosed that allows a single DNA or RNA molecule or portion thereof to be sequenced directly and in substantially real time. The methodology involves engineering a polymerase and/or dNTPs with atomic and/or molecular tags that have a detectable property that is monitored by a detection system.
