    The present invention relates to new 1,3-dioxolan-2-yl derivatives of 2-picolylamine having the formula (I): wherein: R₁ represents an alkyl radical; R₂ represents hydrogen, or a C(=O)R₄ group, wherein R₄ represents C₁-C₆-alkyl or C₁-C₆-alxoxide; X is a single bond, or a -O-, -C(=O)O-, -OC(=O)C-, or -NR₅C(=O)O- group, wherein R₅ is H, C₁-C₄ alkyl or C₁-C₄ acyl; q is 0 or 1; t is (+) when q=1, and t has no meaning when q=0; R₃ is H or C₁-C₆ alkyl when q=1 and an electron pair when q=0; A⁻ is a pharmaceutically acceptable anion. The invention also relates to a procedure for their preparation and to pharmaceutical compositions containing them. These compounds are antagonists of PAF and, thus, useful for the treatment of the diseases in which this substance is involved.

    A polyester polyol made from natural oil feedstocks is disclosed. Methods for making the polyol are also disclosed. The method comprises reacting monohydroxylated fatty acid/alkyl esters with a multifunctional ester-reactive initiator compound to form the polyester polyol. In one embodiment, the monohydroxylated fatty acid/alkyl esters are made by hydroxylating fatty acid/alkyl esters having greater than about ninety-five percent by weight monounsaturation.

    The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer having a content of unreacted diisocyanate of less than about 2% by weight, preferably less than about 1% by weight, based on the weight of the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer, and containing internal urethane groups based on 4,4'-diisocyanato-dicyclohexyl-methane by a) preparing an OH-terminated prepolymer from i) a high molecular weight polyol component, and/or ii) a low molecular weight isocyanate-reactive component, and iii) a polyisocyanate component comprising 4,4'-diisocyanato-dicyclohexyl methane at an NCO/OH equivalent ratio of about 0.5:1 to 0.9:1; b) forming the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer by reacting the OH-terminated prepolymer with a polyisocyanate other than 4,4'-diisocyanato-dicyclohexyl-methane containing aromatically-, aliphatically- and/or cycloaliphatically-bound isocyanate groups at an NCO:OH equivalent ratio, based on the free -OH groups of component (a), of about 1.6:1 to 15:1, and c) reducing the amount of unreacted diisocyanate to less than about 2% by weight, based on the weight of the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer. The present invention is also directed to the products prepared by this process and their use in one-component, moisture-cure systems or as the isocyanate component in two-component polyurethanes.

The polyols of formula I (wherein R represents a polyol, polyamine or aminoalcohol residue; p is an integer of from 2 to 6; each X, which may be the same or different, represents an oxygen or nitrogen atom or a group > NH; each a, which may be the same or different, is an integer of from 0 to 10, the sum of all a's being greater than 0; and each A, which may the same or different, represents a group of formula A,, A3 [wherein m and n are integers; m is greater than 3; n is greater than or equal to 0; and the sum of m and n is from 11 to 19] or A2 [wherein q, r and s are integers; q is greater than 3; r and s, which may be the same or different, are each greater than or equal to 0; and the sum of q, r and s is from 10 to 18]; with the proviso that where each X represents an oxygen atom, p is 3, each A is A, and each a is 1, then R represents other than the residue of glycerol) are prepared by reacting a hydroxymethyl containing monomer compound with a polyol, polyamine or aminoalcohol.
