A novel fluoranthene based fluorescentchemosensor for the detection of picric acid (PA) at the parts per billion (ppb) level was evaluated. Static fluorescence quenching was the dominant process by intercalative pi-pi interaction between fluoranthene (S(1)) and nitroaromatics.
