    cis-2-Alkylcyclohexanols are obtained stereoselectively upon irradiation of a mixture of cyclohexene and the corresponding trialkylborane in the presence of p-xylene as a sensitizer and upon the successive oxidation of the photolysate with alkaline H2O2. The similar reaction of 1-ethylcyclohexene yields 2,2-dialkylcyclohexanols. Cycloheptene also reacts with the boranes to afford cis-2-alkylcycloheptanols

    A process for the regulation of the molecular weight of a high cis 1,4-polybutadiene prepared by polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in a solution of an aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic solvent system employing as a catalyst system a mixture of (1) an organonickel compound, (2) an organoaluminum compound and (3) a fluorine containing compound selected from the group consisting of hydrogen fluoride and hydrogen fluoride complexes prepared by complexing hydrogen fluoride with ketones, esters, ethers, alcohols, phenols and water, said polymerization being conducted in the presence of small amounts of alpha olefins such as ethylene and propylene.

    There is disclosed a process for the regulation of the molecular weight of a high-cis 1,4-polybutadiene prepared by polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in a solution of an aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic or aromatic solvent system employing as a catalyst system a mixture of (1) an organonickel compound, (2) an organoaluminum compound, and (3) a fluorine containing compound selected from the group consisting of hydrogen fluoride and hydrogen fluoride complexes which are prepared by complexing hydrogen fluoride with a ketone, an aldehyde, a nitrile, a mineral acid containing oxygen, an ester, an ether, an alcohol, a phenol or water; said polymerization being conducted in the presence of small amounts of olefins selected from the group consisting of 1-butene, isobutylene, cis and trans-2-butene and allene.

    It is sometimes advantageous to disperse crystalline polymers throughout rubbery elastomers. For instance, the cold flow characteristics and green strength of polydiene rubbers can be improved by dispersing syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene therein. This invention discloses a process for preparing a highly dispersed blend of a crystalline polymer in a rubbery elastomer which comprises (1) polymerizing at least one diene monomer in an organic solvent under solution polymerization conditions to form a polymer cement of the rubbery elastomer in the organic solvent, (2) polymerizing additional monomers in the polymer cement into the crystalline polymer to form a rubbery cement having the crystalline polymer dispersed therein, and (3) recovering the highly dispersed blend of the crystalline polymer in the rubbery elastomer from the organic solvent in the rubber cement.
