3,4-Dihydro-4-methyl-1H-[3,1]oxazinoacridine was prepared in four steps from 3-aminoacridine. DDQ induced opening of the dihydrooxazine ring yielded the 3-methylan-lino-4-formyl derivative. The same strategy was applied to 11-aminobenzo-[b][1,7]phenanthroline.
