The cyclic products are purified by countercurrent distribution and identified with gramicidin S ditosylate and gramicidin S dihydrochloride21) respectively. This proves the structure of gramicidin S as cyclic decapeptide, and constitutes the first synthesis of a naturally occurring cyclic peptide.
