react with Grignardreagents to give sulfides in good yields. The S-alkyl Bunte salts are prepared from odorless sodium thiosulfate by an SN2 reaction with alkyl halides. A Cu-catalyzed coupling of sodium thiosulfate with aryl and vinyl halides was developed to access S-aryl and S-vinyl Bunte salts. The reaction is amenable to a broad structural array of Bunte salts and Grignardreagents. Importantly
Cobalt-Catalyzed Trimethylsilylmethylmagnesium-Promoted Radical Alkenylation of Alkyl Halides: A Complement to the Heck Reaction
A cobalt complex, [CoCl2(dpph)] (DPPH = [1,6-bis(diphenylphosphino)hexane]), catalyzes an intermolecular styrylation reaction of alkyl halides in the presence of Me3SiCH2MgCl in ether to yield beta-alkylstyrenes. A variety of alkyl halides including alkyl chlorides can participate in the styrylation. A radical mechanism is strongly suggested for the styrylation reaction. The sequential isomerization/styrylation

Simple 2° - and 3° -alkyl iodides add smoothly to electron deficient alkynes under standard atom transfer conditions 10% Bu3SnSnBu3, sunlamp photolysis. Mechanistic experiments help to interpret stereochemical and yield trends, and a new model for atom abstraction reactions of rapidly inverting a-vinyl radicals is proposed.
Negishi cross-coupling reactions are described. This method readily provides various enones from enol triflates and diorganozinc reagents with catalytic amounts of nickel(II) chloride–4,4′-dimethoxyl-2,2′-bipyridyl under carbonmonoxide atmosphere. The rate of carbonmonoxide insertion is increased by the addition of lithium or magnesium halides and the use of polar solvents. Alkenyl iodides can also
