Synthesis and complexation chemistry of the novel (1,3)-bifunctional organophosphorus(III) esters [(RO)2PO]4Si (R = Me, Et)

The new, silylated tetraphosphite compounds [(RO)2PO]4Si (R = Me, Et) have been synthesised in high yield from the reactions between SiCl4 and (RO)2P(=O)H in the presence of NEt3. These compounds can bridge two metal centres in the form of a bisbidentate, chelating ligand such as in the compounds {M}{[P(OMe)2O]2Si[O(OMe)2P]2} {M} {M = [Mo(CO)4] and [PtCl2]}.
