Thus, the combination of ortho-substituted phenyl acylals and aromatic/aliphatic aldehydes as coupling substrates using bicyclic triazolium salts as precatalysts and potassium carbonate as a base in THF at reflux temperature selectively yielded O-acyl cross-benzoins.
