Thiocyanation of various aromatic, heteroaromatic and enolizable ketone compounds has been achieved with ammonium thiocyanate in presence of polystyrene cation exchange resin, Amberlyst-15. All the reactions were carried out in acetonitrile at room temperature.

A convenient approach for the direct α-thiocyanation of carbonyl and β-dicarbonylcompounds has been developed using ammonium thiocyanate as the thiocyanating agent and potassium peroxydisulfate as the oxidant in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper(II) sulfate in aqueous acetonitrile.
