O-Thallium(I) salts are shown to promote a variety of rapid, high-yield, substitution reactions at an anomeric, a primary, or a secondary position of carbohydratederivatives. Syntheses are described of phosphates, phosphites, sulfites, and xanthic ester derivatives.
