  A convenient method for the synthesis of [3]-cumulenes based on a Horner-Emmons type reaction of allenyldiphenylphosphine oxides with aldehydes or ketones has been described. A facile two-step synthesis of eneynecumulenes has been accomplished by this method.

  The Pd(PPh(3))(4)-catalyzed cross coupling between 3 and terminal alkynes furnished enynyl aldehydes 4, which were converted to 6 by condensation with 5. Sequential treatment of 6 with n-butyllithium, methanesulfonyl chloride, and tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAE)afforded enyne[3]cumulenes 8.
