Synthesis and mesogenic properties of new liquid crystals, bearing a
chiral trioxadecalin system, are described. As cholesteric helix
inversions in trioxadecalin systems bearing a terminal cyano or nitro
group have previously been observed, the terminal group has been changed
systematically to elucidate its influence on the occurrence of inversions
of the helical pitch.
